In a striking finding, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials report that general aviation contributes an estimated $339.2 billion to the U.S. economy and supports 1.33 million jobs across the country, despite its perception as a tax-funded hobby industry. More than 4,400 airports are used across the country, compared with 549 airports operated by commercial airlines.
